INTRODUCING AETHER MIPS — NUWOD

The Aether™ MIPS is the perfect example of Giro's commitment to perpetually pushing for better. From the elegant silhouette of the Aether’s industrial design to how this helmet manages impact energy, it’s unlike any helmet ever created and a testament to Giro’s dedication to leading head protection.

Three years in the making, the Aether MIPS combines airy, open design with a revolution in rotational energy management to advance head protection for cyclists. Inside the Aether, a dual-density EPS foam liner helps manage a wide range of impact energies, while also boasting deep internal channeling to provide cooling airflow. Giro's proprietary MIPS Spherical technology is integrated between the layers of EPS foam – instead of against the rider’s head – giving riders the benefits of MIPS without obstruction to comfort or cooling power. The stunning silhouette is formed by a sleek six-piece shell that surrounds a series of massive vents, with added structural reinforcement via a shatter-resistant AURA reinforcing arch. The final touch is our Roc Loc ® 5+ Air fit system, featuring 3-way fit tuning, that allows for easy adjustment in seconds.

THE FUTURE OF HEAD PROTECTION AND OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE

Helmets with MIPS technology help to reduce energy transmitted to the brain from linear impacts and angled impacts. The Aether, with MIPS Spherical, can provide an additional measure of protection.

MIPS Spherical was designed with the goal of reducing energy during an impact. Giro worked hand-in-hand with the neuroscientists and researchers behind MIPS, the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System. After five years of testing by Giro (and more than two decades of research and development behind MIPS’ patents) we believe that MIPS is the leading technology designed to reduce rotational energy from angled impacts.

Many other helmets available on the market incorporate MIPS by adding a plastic slip-plane inside the helmet. With MIPS Spherical, however, two layers of EPS foam become the essential components of the slip-plane system. This may provide more protection without any obstruction to comfort or ventilation. This elegant design allows the Aether’s exterior liner/helmet shell to rotate independently around your head during an angled impact and may result in a reduction of rotational forces.

With the Aether, impact is everything.

DEEP INTERNAL CHANNELING

The stunning silhouette is created by merging six individual pieces of polycarbonate around a series of massive vents.
The Aether utilizes multi-density EPS foam to save weight and manage a wide range of impact energies.
Structural integrity is bolstered by the shatter-resistant and translucent AURA reinforcing arch that runs throughout the helmet. Combined with the massive vents, internal channeling forces air to flow over the scalp, providing remarkable cooling power.

Integrated docking eyewear ports with rubber grippers help to secure sunglasses. In addition to retention adjustment on the ergonomic and compact dial, rider can adjust vertical positioning and tune the contact points asymmetrically. Single-piece logo pressed into place from behind through the laser-cut polycarbonate shell before permanently affixing the logo through the in-mold process. To achieve a sleek and slim silhouette without compromising protection standards, the Aether utilizes a micro-bead expanded polystyrene.
